Trouble under Rubble

Overhead, the enormous dragon skull swings unsteadily on its insufficient copper moorings. It’s intact despite the hack marks still apparent from Volkon’s earlier attempts to destroy it during the battle.
Including those returned from pursuing the Drow, Death worshippers and Black-cloaks, there are now about thirty elite orc warriors standing with you in the gloom of the newly revealed sub-cavern. The natural cave ceiling stretches hundreds of feet above you but sealed of from the orc army by tons and tons of caved in rocks and boulders.
Bastien and Demitasse have used the majority of their healing magics and their adventuring allies are all fully healed. The Orcs have benefitted also but most still carry obvious injuries.
Nitendae looks to his fellow adventurers and subtly indicates Thereanthor’s still intact skull hanging above them. They had sworn to destroy it and that vow sits heavily in their chests.
It’ll be hours, possibly days before Clan Chief Obdurate’s orcs manage to dig through the deliberate cave-in and the Half-Elf knows that no amount of lying will prevent the wrath from his feelings of betrayal. As an odd aside, Nitendae worries about the fates of the orcs that spoke for them. Lugdum, Thumsk and Omoola.
Marlon stands with his beefy hand still on the hilt of his magical War-hammer and Sereena stays close in his shadow. The young Sorceress’ eyes widen as she realises what you’re thinking and shakes her head, her raven hair tossing in response.
The Yawning tunnel designed to drag the giant, lizard-like skull away through, is your only obvious escape route but there are still other choices…
Smash the skull before the evil axis launch a counter attack? They broke ranks and fled when you killed Teela their Dragon disciple leader but they still easily outnumbered you. What if they return before the Orcs dig you out?
Perhaps you could persuade the surviving orcs to let you? The look in their eyes makes you doubt it though. They are the last of the elite orcan force who were charged with protecting the skull with their very lives.
Clan Chief Obdurate would surely execute them all though once he’d discovered their failure.
Although they outnumber you, thirty to seven and they are all tough veterans, your skills, magic and armour make you confident you could defeat them.
The only other option would be to leave Thereanthor’s skull intact, the mission a failure and flee down the tunnels into the Underdark itself!

You can think about this until the beginning of the next adventure...

Who Wants What?

As Bastien and Issack verify magical items and hand them out to the Orcs, the more dextrous Nitendae and Sereena divvy out the more subtle items...

Bastien retains his possession of the Gem of Seeing!

Nitendae is already wearing the Studded Leather +2 and pockets one of the newly acquired Ebony flies.

Demitasse keeps his Heavy Mace (Orc bane) +2 out of sight of the orcs, in case they sense its power.

Sereena asks for the Bracers of Armour +2 and one of the Robes of Bones (full).

That leaves  the Amulet of mighty fists +2 and the Ring of Electrical resistance: 10 to divide between Volkon and Marlon.

Marlon already has a 'neck' magical item, so can only really use the Ring of Electrical resistance: 10. He wouldn't say no to the remaining Ebony Fly as well. That way, five of them could fly and give rides to the remaining two.

This therefore leaves only the Amulet of mighty fists +2 for Volkon. Not the best prize but potentially useful...

Issack has acquired one dose of the Salve of Slipperiness, 4 bottles of fine red wine worth 10gp each, a Robe of bones (full) and a Heavy metal shield +2.

There is a brief debate about money, but Nitendae persuades you to bluff it away with the orcs taking just a minor share of the coins and gems acquired.

The remaining score of Orcs do pretty well for themselves, though they don't seem in the mood to celebrate. They get three sets of Leather armour +1, Two Scythes +2 Wounding(+1con), six sets of Studded Leather armour +1 and six Two-handed Miner's Pick +1

The Lead Orc, Mammon, also demands the Golden key for the, newly learned of, possibly salvageable Gnomish path.

This leaves just the gems and coins.

Bastien: 55pp / 85gp / 68sp / 4 x 50gp Saphires / 9 x Black onyx (25gp each)

Nitendea55pp / 85gp /68sp / 4 x 50gp Saphires / 9 x Black onyx (25gp each)

Volkon54pp / 92gp / 68sp / 4 x 50gp Saphires / 9 x Black onyx (25gp each)

Sereena: 27pp / 42gp / 34sp / 2 x 50gp Saphires / 4 x Black onyx (25gp each)

Marlon: 27pp / 42gp . 34sp / 2 x 50gp Saphires / 4 x Black onyx (25gp each)

Demitasse: 27pp / 42gp / 34sp / 2 x 50gp Saphires / 4 x Black onyx (25gp each)

Orcs: The rest.

This division is based on David's and Scott's requests but still needs everyone's blessing. Especially Assif's. Volkon can demand whatever he wants, including both the Ring, the Amulet, anything in Issack's bag AND even some of the stuff given to the orcs.

Just decide and they'll be no arguments. (Maybe a little behind-your-back grumbling though.)

;P

Aftermaths

After the snap of the Dragon woman’s neck, in the dim light of half a dozen magical burning torches, the newly revealed sub-cavern falls momentarily silent.
Shocked and impressed by Bastien’s brutality, Volkon, hands held aloft in supplication, lands out of easy reach of the angry and confused Orcs.
Nitendae wisely maintains his perch atop the shaken but still suspended Dragon skull.
There are only about a dozen orcs left behind on this level, as the majority of them chased after the Death-worshippers, Drow and Duergar fleeing down their tunnel. There are a few dozen more orcs above but they seem more concerned with digging the others out, or putting the crippled ones out of their misery.
“How you here?” growls the largest of those remaining.
The young priest Demitasse also raises his hands in capitulation and Sereena, the raven-haired sorceress, stays wrapped tightly in Marlon’s shadow. Marlon, however, keeps his head raised and his meaty fist, tight around the hilt of his magical War hammer.
It is bold Volkon who answers though.
“We were sent to stop the Dark elves.”
The large orc, signals for some of his comrades to destroy the four remaining, tethered Ogre zombies. Chained together as they are and unarmed or armoured, they offer little resistance other than the stench of decay that accompanies every hack and slice.
“That not answer; how you here?!”
The young, flame haired barbarian does his best to explain without giving too much away, much to the amusement of Nitendae above. Compared to elven discourse, it’s like listening to moronic toddlers chattering.
Eventually though, with the benefit of red wine from Issack’s stores, the Orcs accept Volkon’s half story. Nitendae knows though, that it’ll fall to pieces as soon as the Orcan chief: Obdurate hears it.
Acting under the orcs’ squinting eyes, Demitasse heals who he can. Both friend and orc alike. Nitendae, Sereena and Issack (on Cary’s back) carefully examine the bodies and surreptitiously take a few items, while Volkon, Bastien and Marlon offer up weapons and armour.
Soon, a score of orc warriors emerge back from the giant, black as pitch tunnel. It is soon disclosed that the remaining Duergar was easily caught and killed but the evil, Nerull worshipping humans and Drow managed to escape into the depths of Fissa.
Looking about them, Nitendae can see only two ways out. Follow the Drow, down through their tunnel into the Underdark or wait for the Orcs to eventually burrow them out…
Neither option seems appealing…
