Volkon and the orcs - part 1

Volkon and Greyclaw spent the following months travelling the wild lands. The further they got from their home, the stranger and more desperate were the people. Volkon knew the beasts of the woodlands and wild grasses, but increasingly they had to be wary of more malevolent beasts.  Bears with spite in their hearts, baneful dogs intent on killing for pleasure rather than hunger and bands of evil orcs.

They had left home to look for a purpose, and it was coming clear that these people needed their help.  It was one afternoon that they came upon a village tormented by incessant orc raids. it seemed it was the same orc band that was trying to establish some territory of their own by intimidating the villages in the region. Those vile creatures did this for pleasure first and profit second.  But, despite protests, Volkon persuaded a handful of the strongest and bravest men of the villages to join him on turning the tables on the vile orcs.

Volkon used his hard learned tracking skills to sniff out the orc lair. He found 20 or more orcs encamped at the lee of a vertiginous cliff face. Too many orcs with a clever defensive position, the men gave into the gloom that was inevitable given the treatment they had received over the past months.  Volkon however had other ideas.  He observed them for some days before deciding it was indeed possible for this small group of men to beat them. They would just have to be smarter - not difficult when you are up against orcs!

Volkon Wolfstrider

Lying on the cool soft moss, his side gently warmed by the fire, Greyclaw looked on his master with love and a fierce loyalty in his sharp eyes.  But it was late and a day ranging over the wild lands meant that wolf and human were both tired. Greyclaw fought valiantly to keep his eyes open but they defeated him - the image of the Human in whose trust he placed his life burned into the images of his dreams.

The man looked on the wolf, knowing without question that the magnificent creature would pass through hell itself should he ask it.  But his thoughts were with another,  One year had passed since the sage passed on to live forever as the essence of the woodland spirit.  Oreon had taken the young boy in his hands and taught him the ways of the wild, but those days were now long gone.

---- ~oOo~ ----

He had never known his real parents and was passed from one of the aunts to another until they could not cope any more with the whirlwind that was the flame haired boy.  Little Volcano they named him and for good reason. His rage was like no other - destruction and hot fire.  But man is a complex beast and with the devil walked the calm of the morning.  That part was his mother some said. She was a spirit healer and respected in all the wild lands, and maybe that was why Oreon has taken him under his wing.

Oreon the druid taught Volkon the secrets of the true wild. The rituals and the magic. Complete empathy with the animals and plants of the grove and forest.  And now he sat in the most secret of place - Oreons Grotto - knowing that he would have to move on, and find his purpose.

---- ~oOo~ ----

As morning woke and gently spread her dew over the creatures and flora of the wild forest, Volkon Wolfstrider stood looking over the horizon with Greyclaw by his side. With no ceremony he whispered a silent goodbye to his home and strode into an unknown future.

Equipment and Magic

As I'm allowing you to choose your own starting Magical items, I'd better let you have a peep behind the curtain.

Stick below your budget (Depending on starting class) and you'll be fine.

Dungeon Masters Guide

Assif mentioned 'Master works' items. If you want them, remember the additional price and if you want magical weapons and/or armour, remember to include the shown extra cost for type as well as bonus.

What a Game Day!

Considering that I've still not started writing the first adventure and we're all mostly busy in January, I suggest we scrawl in our 2017 calendars:

Character creation

As were only going to be playing for occasional weekends, it'd be expedient to forego the usual feeble (Oh no I've been hit once, I must go back to the village to recover) levels.

Let's say everyone starts at level three.
(D&D 3.5 core books only)

HPS: Maximum for 1st level. i.e. Barbarians get 12 + constitution bonus. Wizards get 4 + constitution bonus etc.

After that, everyone gets their class average rounded up per new level. I.e. Barbarians get: 7 + constitution bonus and Wizards get:3+ construction bonus (if any).

Equipment: everyone comes with a full set of normal clothes and a shed load of money to spend on whatever they want (including master work equipment or magical items).

Attributes: Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Dexterity, Constitution and Charisma all start at: 8.

Raising costs points and you all start with: 32.

9 costs 1
10 costs 2
11 costs 3
12 costs 4
13 costs 5
14 costs 6
15 costs 8
16 costs 10
17. Costs 13
18 costs 16 (Maximum)

Gold: Stating money depends partially what class you choose.

Barbarians and Bards: 2,860gp
Monks: 2,720gp
Sorcery and Wizards: 2,820gp
Clerics and Thieves: 2,900gp
Druids: 2,780gp
Paladins, Fighters and Rangers: 2,940gp

Be whatever you want. As it's going to be a small group, I may allow henchmen...

You may even want to create back-up characters for when I laugh and kill your lovingly crafted little Rogue...

As your characters are going to be third level, I will expect your back stories posted up.

Happy character creation!
